Title:Vietnam passes cybersecurity law despite concerns

Vietnamese legislators have passed a contentious cybersecurity law, which critics say will hurt the economy and further restrict freedom of expression.

越南立法者通过了一项有争议的网络安全法，批评人士称，该法将损害经济，进一步限制言论自由。

The Communist Party-dominated Assembly passed the law by a majority on June 12. The law requires service providers such as Google and Facebook to store user data in Vietnam, open offices in the country and remove offending contents within 24 hours at the request of authorities.

6月12日，共产党领导的议会以多数票通过该法律。该法要求谷歌和Facebook等服务提供者在越南存储用户数据，在越南开设办事处，并在当局请求的24小时内删除冒犯的内容。

Addressing the Assembly before the vote, the Chairman of the Committee on Defence and Security says the law is necessary to defend the interests of the people and national security.

国防和安全委员会主席在表决前在国会发言时说，维护人民利益和国家安全是必要的。

The U.S. has called on Vietnam to delay the passage of legislation.

美国呼吁越南推迟通过立法。

The Vietnam Digital Communications Association says the law may reduce GDP by 1.7% and wipe out foreign investment by 3.1%.

越南数字通讯协会表示，该法律可能会将GDP下降1.7%，并将外国投资削减3.1%。
