[(Title)] The Pantry takeaway shop provides tasty solution for long-term unemployed

Rhianna Ford had been unemployed for three years when she was offered a job at a takeaway shop in Port Lincoln, South Australia.

莱茵娜·福特在南澳大利亚林肯港一家外卖店获得工作岗位时，已经失业了三年。

The takeaway shop, The Pantry, was recently purchased by local charity Community House Port Lincoln, with the specific aim of helping people like Ms Ford.

这家名为Pantry的外卖店是最近由当地慈善团体林肯港社区收留中心购买的，其目的是帮助像福特女士这样的人。

"The people we have targeted at present have all been long-term unemployed or generationally unemployed," Community House manager Linda Davies said.

"Before I got a job at The Pantry I was in a really rough spot.

"I didn't have accommodation, I didn't have work and I was really struggling in life with some really big battles," Ms Ford said.

"Working for the first time again was a bit daunting. I didn't have that much faith in myself, but I'm giving it ago."

"It feels really good to come to work every day. I'm getting my confidence back and learning a lot of new things."

"每天来上班感觉真好，我恢复了信心，学到了许多新东西。"

Tara Buckskin has also recently started a job at The Pantry, taking on the night shift role.

塔拉·巴克斯皮最近也在Pantry上任，承担了夜班轮值角色。

The single mother of four children moved to Port Lincoln from Arnhem Land three years ago and while she had been lucky at first with employment, she had not had a job for sometime.

三年前，四个孩子的单身母亲从阿纳姆州搬到了林肯港，虽然一开始很幸运，但她暂时没有工作。

"The extra money in my pocket has been great. It should help me pay off my debts and cover the necessities," Ms Buckskin said.

"It's not just serving fish and chips. It's a lot of skills, a lot of things to learn."

Ms Davies described taking on the shop as a "big risk" which has paid off.

A local business offered to pay for a refurbishment of the tired shop and community members with relevant skills have volunteered their time to help the new employees get started.

It is also a full-circle journey for Ms Davies, who worked behind The Pantry's counter 15 years ago before starting her role at Community House.

Offering yiros, burgers, and fried fish and chips, the seaside takeaway business is an iconic shopfront on Port Lincoln's foreshore serving customers day and night, seven days a week.

外卖店是林肯港前滨的一家标志性商店店，每天晚上每天七天，为顾客服务，提供酒，汉堡包，还有炸鱼和薯条。

"There are 60-year-old people in this town that have been visiting The Pantry since they were a child," Ms Davies said.

"So who better to own a community icon than the community themselves?"

The customers are happy too.

After picking up his hot chips, local customer Andrew Franklin told the ABC, "I try to support Community House. They helped me out when I first moved to Lincoln. I know it goes to a good cause and the money stays local."

A month into the charity's management of the shop and they have taken on four members of the community who were struggling with unemployment.

Not all of them have lasted — one quit after two days — but of the three who are still on the books, Ms Davies said "they have blossomed".

"We want to give these people a chance and real skills that will help them succeed in the workplace.

"They are a somebody now, they wake-up now having a purpose in life."

Ms Davies said while the takeaway shop supports the community, it is also hoped that the shop will provide a source of income to pay for Community House overheads.

"We are totally reliant on funding, and there are so many issues with reliance on funding.

"我们完全依赖资助，而且依赖资金存在很多问题。

"We thought it was time to be self-sustaining," Ms Davies said.

戴维斯说：“我们认为现在是自我维持的时候了。
